It can be mounted on tactical or flight helmets, worn on the head, or held in the hand. You can even disable one image intensifier tube to convert it into a monocular for specific applications. The device runs on the included CR123A lithium battery or an easily available AA alkaline battery. An optional battery pack is available for extended use.

This version of the NVG-50 features two second-generation white phosphor image intensifier tubes. The Gen 2+ tubes represent a major step forward compared to Gen 1, offering a greater usable range, improved resolution, sharper and brighter images, and reduced sensitivity to blooming and distortion. The tube is designated as Level 1: this refers to the cleanest tubes without blemishes, for the clearest possible image. The design allows either side to be switched off depending on your preference and folded out of the way. This lets you use one side as a monocular, maximising your field of view and extending battery life. Sensors activate the NVG-50 when it is folded down towards your eyes and switch it off when it is folded up and stowed.

The included goggle assembly allows you to adjust the eyepiece position up, down, forwards, and backwards for a perfect fit on your helmet. The goggle features a wide, adjustable interpupillary distance of 54–78 mm, making it suitable for most face sizes and shapes. Dioptre correction from -6 to +2 enables focusing even if your vision is not perfect. Once correctly adjusted, the goggle provides an eye relief of 17 mm for maximum comfort, with a minimum focus distance of just 25 cm and integrated IR illumination that allows you to pack equipment, check weapons, set up a landing zone, or administer first aid without giving away your position. The AGM features two anti-condensation shields to prevent fogging, as well as protective windows that shield the objective lenses from wind-blown sand and debris.
