When shooting, the eyecup protects your Viewfinder against bumps and scratches. It also shields against dirt, moisture, dust, and unwanted light, giving you more image detail. On top of that, it provides greater viewing comfort when holding the camera up to your eye, especially if you wear glasses. The KE-EP18L replaces the Sony FDA-EP18 eyecup.
