The Laowa Sunlight FF 2x Anamorphic Zoom 70-135mm T4.5 Silver is the world's first 2x anamorphic zoom lens designed for full-frame sensors. The lens is characterised by a 2x anamorphic effect and a versatile zoom range (70–135mm), weighing approximately 2.6 kg and measuring 242 mm in length, making it highly portable.
Using a zoom lens reduces the amount of equipment needed compared to traditional 2x anamorphic setups, enabling a lighter crew. The series offers a range of focal lengths that allow you to refine framing and perspective without frequently swapping lenses, increasing versatility on set. It also provides a variety of zoom effects (crash zooms, dolly zooms, slow zooms) for creative storytelling.
The 2x compression ratio delivers a more pronounced widescreen aspect ratio (typically 2.39:1 or wider after decompression), resulting in a classic cinematic look with enhanced oval bokeh and more intense flare effects that are characteristic of anamorphic storytelling, as favoured in Hollywood productions. Compared to 1.33x or 1.5x, which produce softer widescreen ratios (e.g. 1.78:1 or 2.0:1) and subtler distortions, the 2x compression offers greater creative control and a more dramatic visual signature — in line with the Sunlight series' goal of bold, expressive cinematography.
Weighing just 2.6 kg (70–135mm) and measuring 242 mm in length, the Sunlight series redefines portability for anamorphic zoom lenses.
