Panasonic Lumix DC-S5 IIX body
The Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX is an addition to the popular LUMIX S series. The system camera has incredible photo and video performance in an attractive, compact design. Compared to the LUMIX S5II, the LUMIX S5 IIX goes the extra mile for the professional videographer in a sleek, matte black design. The S5 IIX has a 24-megapixel 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor that lets in plenty of light and provides razor-sharp images. The sensor combined with the advanced image processor ensures excellent image quality for both still and video shooting.
The updated image sensor supports, for the first time in the LUMIX line, hybrid phase-detection autofocus. The hybrid autofocus system combines phase detection with contrast detection for fast and reliable focusing. The new system can easily recognise subjects even in challenging conditions such as when there is low light. Once the focus is fixed, it continues to track the subject across the screen. Continuous autofocus is also available when zooming in, as well as AF micro adjustments.
The LUMIX S5 IIX has significantly improved image stabilisation so you can take stable, strong shots even when out of hand. Active image stabilisation comes in very handy in challenging conditions such as when using a telephoto lens or when filming while walking. Active image stabilisation also ensures highly stable videos by optimising horizontal, vertical and rotation correction.
The system camera has exceptional video performance similar to the LUMIX S1H. For instance, you film in 4:2:0 10-bit 6K (3:2) and 5.9K (16:9) in 30fps and 4:2:2 C4K/4K in 60fps. You easily record in High Frame Rate at up to 120fps and in slow motion at up to 180fps. You can use different colour profiles such as 14+ stop V-log and V-Gamut. Support for a REAL TIME LUT function means you can upload colour-correction LUTs to an SD card and add them directly on camera instead of during post-processing.
In terms of video, the S5 IIX goes even further than the S5II. In fact, the LUMIX S5IIX is capable of 5.8K Apple ProRes and C4K Raw or All-intra recordings to an SSD or recorder. The camera is compatible with wireless and wired IP streaming and USB tethering. The S5 IIX can record in C4K 30p 4:2:2 10-bit, where the S5II records in 4:2:0. 4K S and Q Slowmotion are also recorded on the S5IIX with 4:2:2 chroma subsampling for outstanding colour depth. For professional videographers, features like Waveform Monitor, Vector Scope and Zebra Pattern have been added. Features like System Frequency (24.00Hz) and Synchro Scan also make this camera suitable for professional use.
The camera has several options that give you excellent photos with minimal workflow. Features like AWB lock, MF assist and a new Live Crop function provide a highly refined shooting experience. An HDMI type-A and USB 3.2 gen 2 jack provide extensive connectivity options. Thanks to WiFi 5GHz, you can also connect wirelessly to smartphones and tablets quickly and stably. Dual UHS-II memory card slots ensure you always have plenty of space.
Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary L-mount
The Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary is a professional standard zoom lens in a compact body. Excellent optical performance is combined with a fast constant aperture. This version features the L-mount.
The optical design is based on 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN from the Art line, but the lens is significantly smaller and lighter. Despite this, no concessions have been made in terms of performance. The design features three aspherical, two FLD and two SLD lens elements. These thoroughly correct axial chromatic aberration and sagittal coma aberration for uniform sharpness from centre to corners. In addition, the Super Multi-Layer and Nanon Porous Coating ensure perfect flare control and high-contrast images in backlight. Finally, the front lens has a water- and oil-repellent coating, making it easy to keep clean.
The 28-70mm weighs just 470g, making it great for taking anywhere. A lightweight focusing element has been used which keeps the autofocus unit compact. Combined with the extremely quiet and fast stepping motor, this results in responsive and almost silent autofocus performance. Following the design concept of the Contemporary line, the lens features dust- and splashproof construction at the mount and smaller switches. High-quality materials and techniques ensure that all components work well and continue to work well, even under extreme temperature fluctuations.
