The Voigtländer Septon 40mm F2.0 Aspherical E-mount is a standard pancake-style lens with an exceptionally compact design, ideal for mirrorless cameras. Optimised for full-frame sensors with Sony E-mount, this lens achieves a maximum aperture of F2 while retaining the advantages of the compact Orthometar lens type. This is made possible by the use of an aspherical element in the six-element Orthometar construction. The Orthometar lens type is characterised by a short optical length and extremely low distortion.

With a total length of just 30mm from the lens mount, the lens is extremely portable and always ready to use. The 40mm angle of view, which can also be used as a mild wide-angle lens, makes it an ideal lens for everyday use.

With a short minimum focusing distance of 0.3m, this lens is ideal for tabletop and close-up photography. A spherical, screw-on metal lens hood is included, ensuring the lens retains its compact form factor.

The lens features electronic contacts, allowing lens data to be stored in the EXIF information of captured images. In addition, a distance encoder is integrated, enabling compatibility with camera models that use 5-axis in-body image stabilisation, which uses distance information for effective correction of camera movement.

Furthermore, the lens provides a magnified viewfinder image when the focus ring is turned. The aperture ring is precision-milled and clicks into place in 1/3-stop increments.
