The 35mm f/1.4 Distagon T\* ZM lens from Carl Zeiss is a manual wide-angle lens that is compatible with Zeiss Ikon, Leica M or Voigtlander M-mount rangefinder cameras. With a maximum aperture of f/1.4 and a Zeiss T\* anti-reflection coating, both colours and details can be reproduced with great accuracy, even in low light. The wide aperture also offers the ability to blur and isolate backgrounds more than what is possible with lenses that have a narrower maximum aperture. In addition, the 35mm focal length has the added benefit of minimal distortion and compression, resulting in more accurate portrayal of proportions and features.

Within a robust metal housing are 10 lens elements in seven groups designed to eliminate geometric distortions. Markings for depth of field, focus distance and aperture settings are clearly defined on the outer barrel. The lens' aperture ring is adjustable in precise 3/1 increments and controls a 10-blade iris for smooth out-of-focus areas within an image. In addition, the focus ring features an ergonomic finger rest for greater speed and precision when turning, and has a 90-degree rotation angle that helps prevent the user from accidentally overshooting the desired focus point.
