The new 24.6 megapixel stacked EXMOR RS CMOS sensor and the BIONZ XR processor boast superlative readout and processing power. Sony's pioneering global shutter technology ensures you don't have to compromise on speed or resolution. The groundbreaking combination of a global shutter, full frame sensor, speed and resolution sets a new standard for all professional cameras to come. The global shutter exposes the whole scene at once, and all pixels are read out at the same time. Warping or distortion of fast-moving subjects is a thing of the past. Nor is filming in high-speed environments a problem any more, as your image remains razor-sharp and in focus. Images are flicker-free, with no banding. There are no more colour or brightness variations between frames. The global shutter also provides flash synchronisation at any shutter speed without HSS, up to 1/80000s.
Shutter speeds of up to 1/80000s mean you can freeze any action, no matter how small. Speed Boost toggles to 120fps per second at the touch of a button, to ensure you capture every single moment. Shoot at 120fps with AF/AE without blackout, even in 14-bit RAW, at up to 6 GB/s. As your images are played back as video you can scroll through them in an instant, leaving you to choose your favourite frame to freeze. The pre-capture function even gives you access to images taken before the shutter is released.
The autofocus has a dedicated AI processing unit for an ultra-precise, fast and razor-sharp system. The Sony-renowned detection targets, such as people, animals and vehicles, are tracked across the image. 759 focus points cover 95.6% of the screen, for flawless focus. AF precision down to -5EV offers reliable focus even in low-light conditions. In low-light conditions, you can also count on excellent 8.0-stops, 5-axis, in-body stabilisation. Trust the camera implicitly as you concentrate on taking your images.
Even during video recording, images remain distortion-free at high frame rates. You can shoot 4K 120 fps without any crop. 6K oversampling of 4K 60fps film provides extra resolution when you need it. 10-bit 4:2:2 colour depth and style profiles, such as S-cinetone and S-log3, ensure colours look exactly the way you want them to. For filmmakers who really want to get the most out of their videos, the camera features 16-bit RAW output.
The camera's new ergonomic design improves operability and reduces fatigue during use. The intuitive Quick Response shutter button has been shifted for improved operability. With the new C5 button on the front of the camera and several dials, you can fully adjust the camera to your liking. The 4-axis multi-angle LCD panel ensures your subject consistently stays in optimum view.
Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II
The Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II is a wide-angle lens with extremely fast autofocus, designed specifically for the full-frame Sony E-mount system camera. Sony uses several advanced lens technologies, so you can expect exceptional sharpness. For instance, this lens contains no fewer than four aspherical elements, including three XA glass elements and several ED glass elements. This enables you to achieve optimum resolution over the full range. Also, the lens elements are finished with a coating to reduce internal reflections. This significantly improves brightness and contrast for even sharper images. The front lens element has a Fluorine coating, making dust and grease less likely to adhere.
Thanks to its 11 aperture blades, the Sony FE 16-35mm GM II's aperture is almost perfectly round. Your subjects are focussed in the foreground, and you can create a beautiful bokeh effect in the background. The lens has no fewer than four XD linear motors, ensuring that the Next Gen AF is not only super fast, but also very precise and extremely quiet. It is also possible to shoot as many as 30fps in burst mode, so you never miss a moment. With a focusing distance of just 22 centimetres and a magnification ratio of 0.32x, you can get nice close-ups, but wide shots are no problem either.
The biggest differences from its predecessor are the outstanding image quality in the corners, improved autofocus, optimised image stabilisation and the addition of an aperture click switch. A striking feature is its smaller size and weight. The lens weighs as much as 20% less than the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM. Weighing just 547 grams, you can therefore use the lens for various forms of photography and videography. For example, capturing landscapes, portraits, travel, as well as night shots. The 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II is great for shooting video with a 120fps burst mode and minimum focus breathing, another nice improvement on the 16-35mm f/2.8 GM.
Adding a coating significantly reduces chromatic aberrations, lens flare and ghosting. In addition, the lens is dust and moisture resistant, allowing you to keep shooting or filming even in extreme weather conditions. With a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and minimal noise, this lens also performs well in low-light conditions. This makes the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II a true all-rounder.
