Sony PXW-FS7 mark II body
The Sony PXW-FS7 mark II is a flexible 4K camera system with a Super 35mm sensor that lets you capture images with cinematic depth. This video camera is suitable for many types of filmmaking, such as 'Cinéma Vérité' style documentaries, reality TV and commercials. The E-mount has a strong lock, is fully compatible with E-mount lenses and supports all electronic connections. With this camera you can use most 35mm lenses, including PL, EF, Leica and Nikon, via an optional adapter. The sturdy E-mount is also ideal for heavy, long cine zooms without the need for extra lens support.
This video camera can capture images in either DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) or UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) at up to 59.94 fps, or in HD at up to 180 fps. You can choose to record in XAVC-I, XAVC-L or MPEG-2. In MPEG-2, however, recording is only possible in HD, as the high data rates required for UHD are not supported in this mode.
The 4K Super 35 EXMOR sensor offers 14 stops of dynamic range and a wide color gamut, and gives you the choice of XAVC or MPEG-2 codecs. For XAVC you can choose between INTRA and Long, so you can encode from HD to UHD with 10-bit 4:2:2 for HD and 10-bit 4:2:2 or 8-bit 4:2:0 for UHD. The camera accepts two signal processing modes: Cine-EI and Custom. Cine-EI offers three color correction spaces for electronic cinematography production. The Custom mode supports Rec-709 and Rec BT-2020 UHD 3840 x 2160 with Y, Cb, Cr color subsampling.
Just behind the lens mount sits an electronically extendable ND filter system. When you switch on the internal ND filter, it replaces the standard filter. You can set the electronic ND filter as three individual filters and operate them by turning the filter dial. You can also manually adjust the filter density from 2 to 7 stops.
The Sony PXW-FS7 mark II body is made of magnesium, which is lighter and stronger than aluminum. As a result, the camera weighs only two kilos. It includes a shoulder pad and is designed to rest on the user's shoulder. The SmartGrip also makes it possible to hold the camera in front of you without needing a supporting rig.
The viewfinder and microphone holder have been relocated on the FS7 mark II, as they are now attached to the replaceable 15mm rod. This lets you swap the rod (not included) and move the viewfinder and microphone holder independently of the camera. It also makes it possible for people who look through the viewfinder with their left eye to still carry the camera on their right shoulder.
The camera has two XQD memory card slots, so you can record simultaneously or in relay mode. Compared to the FS7, the slots on the FS7 II are positioned less deep, which makes inserting and removing memory cards easier.
